The Contrary Kingdoms. Which Do You Belong To?

Since the fall of Adam and Eve, when they said yes to the enemy of God, we as believers are still reaping the consequences of their sinfulness. Over the years, many of us have become so accustomed to living in this sin-cursed world that we hardly even see the difference between the Kingdom of Heaven and the kingdom of this world anymore. But as Christians we need to be aware that there are some vast differences between the two kingdoms.

I want to give you some things to think about so that you can make a choice concerning which kingdom you want to belong to. And if you see that your life is being determined by attitudes and thought patterns that are not according to the Kingdom of Heaven you can make a choice to decide which kingdom you want to follow. To do this, be aware of how often you react and live according to the kingdom of this world rather than according to the Kingdom of Heaven as you go about your daily activities…

Example 1: How do you react when you are in traffic and someone suddenly cuts you off? What is the first thing that comes to your mind or out of your mouth? What is your first reaction? Is it cursing or is it blessing? Are you able to bless that person and ask God to give him/her a safe ride to wherever he/she is going? Or do negative words come out of your mouth without you giving it a second thought?

When you see that your attitude, lifestyle, words, or thinking are not according to the Kingdom of Heaven to which you say you belong, then repent! Immediately change your mind about the way you reacted and choose to react according to the Kingdom of Heaven. Bless the person. Change your way of speaking and let it be the opposite of what first came out of your mouth.

Example 2: We often say in any given situation that we will ‘believe it when we see it’. Yet, the Kingdom of Heaven says: ‘First believe and then you will see’. So, if you are doubting and taking a passive attitude to life, you need to repent and begin doing according to the Kingdom of Heaven. In this case you must decide to first believe so that you can see.

As you go into this weekend be aware of the two kingdoms. Be aware and attentive to the words that you speak and the actions you take. Are they according to the kingdom you say you belong to? If not, choose to change your mind about your actions, reactions and words. Keep thinking about the kingdom to which you belong and act accordingly…!

I hope to hear from you how this practical exercise has worked out for you over the coming days.
Be in touch.
Good weekend.
