Today I want to share with you again about ‘My identity in Christ’. If you are a believer in Christ you better know who is shaping your identity. Many people live from a skewed identity. They tell God: “I want to be who you called me to be, I give my life to you, I want to live for!” Yet they are still holding on to the negative things that have been spoken into their lives and holding on to their negative circumstances which is causing them to have a skewed identity.
I want to show you some truths that God has spoken in His Word about who you are, what you have and what you can do. These three aspects make up your identity. After you know these truths it is going to be up to you to first find out what they really mean to you and then decide if you are going to accept them as your true identity. It is going to be up to you to decide how you are going to use these truths to change and transform your life into what you want it to be, knowing that that is what God wants because He has created you for greatness in this life.
The true secret of applying the word of God in your life is ‘acting’ as if what God says about you in His word is true for you right here and now. Let’s look at some things the Bible says about you in terms of: who you are, what you have and what you can do:
What the Bible says about who you are: I am a new creation. The old person I was before the fall, before giving my life to Christ, is no more. So find out what this new creation looks like and live accordingly. I am righteous and holy. I am fully accepted by God. He tells you He has fully accepted you not because you have done everything right, but because of what Christ has done for you at the cross.
What the Bible says about what you have according to the Kingdom of Heaven: I have Christ living in me. Are you a believer? Then you need to realize that you now have Christ living in you and guiding you into all He has called you to do. You have life in abundance. Grasp and accept the fact that God almighty has given you life in abundance. You produce this life no matter what your circumstances are, because Life Himself lives in you. You have the peace of God that passes all understanding. Once you give your burdens to God, you can trust that His peace is yours. In spite of the chaos around you, you are able to have peace. Because of your identity in Christ, you actually become that peace and you are able to go through tough life situations and still be radiant!
What the Bible says about what I can do in Christ: I can call those things that are not, as though they were. Are you not seeing peace in you life, call it out! In other words begin to speak it as if it is true right now and begin to live from that reality. I can call it out by faith and make it be on earth as it is in heaven. What do you need to see in your family or in your life? Realize that your Heavenly reality is so real and wonderful and then realize that God has called you to make it be on earth as it is in Heaven. I have the ability to put off the old man, renew the spirit of my mind and put on the new man. You have the ability to put off the things that are not the way you want them to be in your life and put on what you do want to see!
I encourage you today to take at least one of these aspects and promises about: who you are, what you have and what you can do and begin living it out as if it is true for you today! Begin to allow the word of God to weigh more heavily for you than your circumstances and the negative things that have happened in your life and you will begin to see the identity of God take shape in your life!
